What is a Prosthodontist?

Whether you are a new patient or an existing patient, you may still be unsure of what a Prosthodontist actually is. We hope our website helps you to fully appreciate the value of treatment provided by Dr. Barnhard and Dr. Varghese, your Board Certified Prosthodontists and Dr. Andrew I. Brafman, your Prosthodontist.

Prosthodontists are experts when it comes to the restoration and replacement of teeth. Years of specialized training and education give Prosthodontists the knowledge and skills to provide excellent crowns, bridges, dentures, partial dentures, dental implant restorations and other restorative procedures. Their rigorous training and experience result in a unique understanding of the dynamics of a smile, the preservation of a healthy mouth, and the creation of life-like tooth replacements.

Did you know that some dentists perform reconstructive dentistry after just a weekend course about a procedure? Specialists in Prosthodontics receive an additional four years of intense, formal, University training beyond regular dental school and Board Certified Prosthodontists have passed a series of oral, written and clinical examinations that are repeated every 8 years. Only 700 of the 2600 eligible Prosthodontists are certified as Diplomates of the American Board of Prosthodontics. For more information about Prosthodontics, please visit www.prosthodontics.org.
